Badly injured 9-feet-long reptile was rescued near Nalsarovar santuary

A light commercial vehicle ran over a 9-feet-long reticulated python near the Nalsarovar sanctuary in Ahmedabad, causing grievous injuries to its face. The reptile was rescued by the Animal Life Care, an NGO, on Saturday morning and sent to the Ahmedabad Forest Hospital for further treatment.

Pythons, that are non-venomous, are commonly seen near Nalsarovar. The injured Python is believed to have been crossing the road near Kundal village of Sanand when it got under the vehicle. The reptile lost its left eye while its jaw was dislocated.

NGO volunteer Vijay Dabhi took the reptile to the Sanand veterinary clinic and gave it first aid and then transported it to Ahmedabad Forest Hospital for further treatment.

The Python was responding to the treatment on Sunday evening. Officials believe that if the Python survives after the treatment, it will have to be kept in lifelong care due to its grievous injuries.
