Using Large Language Models to power “talking networks” of the future

With modern network infrastructures increasing in complexity, using generative AI chatbots, AIOps and terabit networking will revolutionize networking management and usage.

AI is poised to continue taking center stage as the key strategic focus for transformation. IDC estimates that by 2028, 80% of CIOs in the Asia Pacific region will have adopted AI to transform their enterprises, while APAC’s generative AI market is projected to hit US$3bn by 2027.

With the ability for new technologies to streamline time-intensive tasks, enhance experiences and bolster productivity, the imperative for businesses is clear: evolve or risk falling behind.

The advent of Generative AI is going to redefine the way businesses operate and interact with their networks. Powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), the era of the “talking network” will arrive: one that enables operators to rapidly navigate complex systems and get answers about everything from the current network state to recommendations on configuration changes or upgrades.

An era of talking networks

Imagine a future where users can simply ask their network to diagnose and fix problems, eliminating the need for cumbersome troubleshooting processes. The talking network is the next phase in a transformative evolution of networking that will bring about enhanced user experience and increased operational efficiency.

Through the use of advanced chatbots tailored to the needs of each organization, talking networks are expected to drive better customer experience and optimize employee productivity. Additionally, predictive IT maintenance tools will add an extra layer of issue prevention.

Proactive user identification and resolution of potential challenges in the network will become the norm, minimizing downtime and ensuring a seamless workflow.

However, to harness the potential of the talking network, organizations will need to undertake extensive upgrades to their network operations. Network environments powered by the advanced capabilities of generative AI and LLMs are burgeoning in complexity, and enterprises will need to carefully consider their operational strategies to accommodate the higher bandwidths and lower latencies that this new tech demands.

In such a landscape, AI for IT Operations (AIOps) will be a differentiator for organizations. With AIOps, reactive processes can be turned into proactive strategies that enhance user experiences and automate the management of complex modern networks.

Leverages advanced analytics, machine learning and automation, AIOps enables a proactive approach to fulfill the demands of the talking network. The challenge for businesses will lie in finding the optimal balance between maintaining on-premises solutions and exploring the advantages of cloud computing to achieve greater flexibility and lower operating costs.

Future proofing networking

As computing power and data demands escalate, terabit ethernet networking will be needed, especially as enterprises are forced to manage bandwidth demands and rising latency caused by data-heavy applications.

In the year ahead, cloud providers, telecom operators and data center operators in the region will spearhead this progression, bolstering capacities to efficiently process intricate, large-scale data without compromise — crucial as well for the use of the talking network.
