The Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO is calling all space enthusiasts to participate in a 5-day free online Python programming course. Read on to find out more about course structure, fee, dates and timings.
Free Online Course on Geodata Processing Using Python
ISRO, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, is offering a 5-day free online course titled ‘Geodata Processing Using Python’ from January 16–27, 2023. Sponsored by the Government of India, the course aims to provide valuable insights into geospatial and satellite data processing.
The course is open to:
– Undergraduate or graduate students in their last year.
– Employees in science or technology in the federal or state governments.
– Academic staff or researchers from universities or other establishments.
– Participants may also be users getting programs through the CIET or CEC-UGC networks.
– Overview of geographical information systems and numerous geospatial data types
– Overview of Python programming
– Introduction to Anaconda and Jupyter notebook
– Processing, resampling, and analysis of raster data
– Vector data processing and analysis
– Geospatial data visualization online
– Familiarisation with several open-source geospatial data processing libraries such as GDAL, and Geopandas
Benefits for Participants
Upon successful completion of the course and meeting attendance criteria, participants will receive a certificate from ISRO. Learners will gain the ability to:
– Create a Python program that can read, write, and handle several vector and raster formats.
– Create a program to display geographic data as maps or pictures.
– Participants in the e-class platform will have access to course study resources such as lecture slides, lecture recordings on video, open-source software, and demonstration handouts, among other things.
To enroll in the course, participants need a desktop or laptop with a webcam, microphone, and speakers, along with a large display screen, projector, or TV if conducted in a classroom setting.
There are no registration fees for applicants applying to this course.
Upon course completion, participants should be able to write Python programs for reading, writing, and processing raster and vector data, as well as visualizing geospatial information.
Participants will have access to lecture slides, video recordings, open-source software, and demonstration handouts through the e-class platform.
