More About AI

“Almost definitely, the creation of AI will be the biggest event in human history.”
– Stephen Hawking

Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence (perceiving, synthesizing, and inferring
information) demonstrated by machines, as opposed to intelligence displayed by humans.
AI is an interdisciplinary field which requires deep knowledge of computational and
human sciences. Some example tasks include speech recognition, facial recognition,
computer vision, translation between natural languages, as well as other mappings
of inputs. AI applications include advanced web search engines; recommendation systems
used by YouTube, Amazon, and Netflix; understanding human speech such as Siri and
Alexa; self-driving cars; automated decision-making; and competing in strategic game
systems (such as chess and Go).

The use of AI and other technologies in colleges and universities is opening the doors
of higher education to all regardless of where they live in the world. AI encourages
curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, students are becoming truly global citizens,
and colleges and universities are becoming boundaryless. AI is changing everything
from the way students learn, to the way artists create their art, to the way buildings are designed. An example is a Stanford University study showed how interactive machine tutors can be matched to students for a more focused,
individualized learning experience.
