Apple seems to be lagging a bit behind in the AI race. While the big tech giants and its competitors like Google, Meta, and even Samsung have either announced or are planning to bring in generative AI upgrades to their products, major announcements around AI have been missing from Cupertino headquarters. Even during the recent launch of iPhone 15, Apple didn’t focus much on AI, and it was kind of a disappointment for fans who were hoping for some exciting announcement around the latest tech. However, Apple is planning to take a big leap in AI this year in 2024.
Apple is planning to announce a series of generative AI-based tools for its product line, including the iPhone, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The report suggests that Apple is planning to unveil its generative AI offerings with the new iOS software update – iOS 18. These new AI-backed updates will include a slew of new AI-backed features like auto-summarising and auto-complete for core apps, merging AI into services like Apple Music, revamping its assistance Siri, and introducing new AI-based tools for developers.
The report reveals that since early 2023, Apple has been quietly testing its “Ajax” language model, with significant plans to infuse its products with AI smarts. From auto-completion in Pages and Keynote to AI-powered playlists in Apple Music, the Ajax LLM is aimed at streamlining workflows and enhancing user experiences across the Apple ecosystem. With its LLM, Apple might give an AI makeover to troubleshooting with AppleCare.
However, while Apple might finally announce its AI upgrades, rolling out these features will be a gradual process. Users won’t experience them fully until 2025. Reports suggest that “the totality of Apple’s generative AI vision will take at least until 2025 to fully scale.” Although Apple is attempting to close the gap in the AI race, their efforts may lag behind competitors like Samsung. The Korean tech giant is poised to introduce its first AI-powered phone, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, on January 17.
Apple new prduct line releasing in 2024
Meanwhile, beyond the excitement of AI advancements, 2024 is also gearing up for a wave of new Apple products, headlined by the much-anticipated Vision Pro and the next generation of iPhones, MacBooks, and more. The year’s rumoured releases are expected to kick off with the Vision Pro headset arriving sometime around February. This will be followed by redesigned iPad Pro models in March, featuring larger displays, OLED technology, the powerful M3 chip, and a range of new accessories. Later in March Apple might also launch a new iPad Air lineup, possibly featuring a larger 12.9-inch size option.
Later during WWDC, possibly in June-following the recent announcement dates-Apple is expected to release previews of its new software updates for products, including watchOS 11, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, visionOS 2, and tvOS 18. Additionally, Apple could also provide a glimpse of the much-anticipated M3 Ultra Mac Studio. Furthermore, the first half of the year might also see the launch of a refreshed Apple TV 4K powered by an upgraded chip.
Moving to September, the iPhone 16 is anticipated to debut, featuring Spatial Video capture and the Action button. Simultaneously, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be introduced with larger displays, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and a new “Capture button.” Around the same time, Apple might unveil the “Apple Watch X,” fourth-generation AirPods, and refreshed AirPods Max equipped with USB-C are also on the horizon.
Finally, at the end of this year, Apple may close out with the release of the seventh-generation iPad mini, the 11th-generation iPad, and a new Mac mini featuring the M3 and M3 Pro chips. Additionally, the introduction of new MacBook Pros, possibly featuring M4 series chips, could occur, although the exact timing for these devices remains less clear.
