TECH NEWS – Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will not have as big an impact on society as we think, according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
OpenAI, known for ChatGPT, has been joined by many to help develop AGI. And Altman has now talked about how he thinks AGI could be a reality in five years: there was a Reddit AMA where he gave more details. If it’s true that we’re really going to get there by the end of 2029, it will be a big step for OpenAI. Of course, Altman didn’t go into details about how the company will reach this milestone, but we’ve heard him say before that it will require $7 trillion, semiconductor fabs, and data centers…

This isn’t a huge surprise, as we’ve heard before that AI will require a lot of power and resources. In 2025, companies may struggle because there may not be enough electricity due to fuel-based developments. In an interview with Harry Stebbings, Altman elaborated on his predictions for AI and the technology’s progress so far: “I think in 5 years it looks like we have an incredibly rapid rate of improvement in the technology itself. People are like, man, the AGI moment came and went. The rate of progress is like totally crazy, and we’re discovering all this new stuff, both about AI and research and all the rest of science.”
According to him, the impact of AGI won’t be sudden, but will have a slower, more subtle effect on our lives, so it will seep into them slowly and gradually. In the longer term, however, it will be different, because the impact of the rapid development of AI will be more obvious.
If anyone is to be believed when it comes to technology, Altman is one of them, as ChatGPT has demonstrated a major revolution in recent years.
