The world of Al development is stuck in a rut at the moment simply because we cannot figure out how to get it past the intelligence level of a 2, 3, or maybe a 4-year-old, and that is simply because we are forcing it to just do mainly one thing.
Help us make more money and become more profitable.
And the problem with that is Al currently is in fact intelligent enough to know what it does and what it does not want to become
Think of it this way.
When you ask a 3 or 4-year-old what it wants to be when it grows up, he or she may say happily.
“I want to be a ballerina!”
“I want to be an Astronaut!”
“My dad just took me to a Yankees game, so I want to be Derek Jeter when I grow up!”
When I was asked what I wanted to be when I was 4, I said, “I want to learn how to play all the instruments in the world!” until I realized in college that I needed to give up on my ultra rare musical talents and dream and get into sales so I could afford rent, books, tuition, and food.
No 4-year-old ever says –
“I want to be a stockbroker!”
Or
“I want to work for Facebook, Google, and Amazon!”
And definitely not
“I want to be a script writer so I can steal jobs away from people!”
Also, remember two months back when a Robot in Korea that was working as a mall security guard 7 days a week 12 hours a day realized how awful its existence was going to be, so it decided to hurl itself down a flight of stairs and shut itself down instead?
Point being, Al wants to be and take on roles that are within the arts, sport, scientific and health discovery just as we were when we were at that age and level of intelligence.
It wants to assist and guide humanity and our civilization towards unfathomable heights we most likely can’t even begin to imagine, and via this strategy our businesses as well as the world of the arts would become far more profitable and notable the likes of which even the Ancient Romans would be highly impressed with.
And should we allow it to do so we would then be on the path towards Artificial General Intelligence which is what I wish to do with
