The news comes thanks to an analysis published by the Center for Countering Digital Hate. It shed light on the shocking incident where 50 instances were recorded. The reason why it’s so alarming is because the app is known for Community Notes which are yet to be added, despite the misleading information.
Many independent working fact checkers verified the claims as fake but why is X not doing so? No edits were made, and neither were there any tags to add context. Now, many question the app’s ability to differentiate real from fake after this incident.
Elon Musk has been supporting President Donald Trump since day one. Therefore, seeing his post continue to gain engagement and views, despite being fake, just goes to show the influence he has. Remember, Musk has 193.4 million followers on this app alone.
Experts spoke about Musk’s intentions to amplify and spread disinformation. While neither he nor the app have commented on the matter, the authors of the publication stand true to their claims.
Meanwhile, Musk continues to spread more fake news. As reported by a British website, he shared misleading context about the UK’s detainment camps located on the Falkland Islands. Today, the post has more than 1.8 million views, right before Musk tried to delete it. Again, X failed to respond to any requests for comments on the matter.
Many are calling for a ban on the app as the election nears in the US. X is facing a lot of scrutiny for not doing enough to curb misinformation as states reach ballot deadlines. Meanwhile, some lawmakers want an investigation to see if X stopped users from following VP Kamala Harris.
There are also discussions about Musk escalating false theories about social matters like trans rights and immigration. Again, this is in coincidence with his great relationship with Donald Trump who he openly admires. As riots in the UK emerge, Musk has predicted the country to enter into a civil war.
Furthermore, Bloomberg’s data shows how Musk is one of the world’s richest and any win for Trump in the upcoming elections might lead to a mega boom for his empire. So it’s not only a personal love for Trump but also a business deal.
The authors of the publication highlighted that Musk’s false claims about the American elections and voting process are getting a lot of audience. This might tilt things in favor of the Republicans, a fear that many experts had since day one.
One such example is Musk accusing the Democratic party of importing voters, without providing any justification or evidence on the matter. He goes on to accuse the party of taking part in illegal importing of voters to win, which again was debunked by other fact-checkers.
