flaskcode package GET Request .txt path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score

CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.

Current Exploit Price (≈)

Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.

CTI Interest Score

Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

6.4 $0-$5k 0.10

A vulnerability was found in flaskcode package up to 0.0.8 on Python. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file /resource-data/.txt of the component GET Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

An issue was discovered in the flaskcode package through 0.0.8 for Python. An unauthenticated directory traversal, exploitable with a GET request to a /resource-data/.txt URI (from views.py), allows attackers to read arbitrary files.

The weakness was released 01/13/2024. The advisory is shared for download at gitlab.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-52288 since 12/31/2023. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 02/03/2024). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

By approaching the search of inurl:resource-data/.txt it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
